Introduction

Although I have numerous happy childhood memories, one of them is close to my heart and worth mentioning.

What is that happy memory?

The happy memory is winning the poetry competition.

Who did what and why?

I vividly remember when I was in the 3rd standard, my school teacher came to me and told me to go to the stage and recite a poem immediately. Although I was not on the list of participants, I was given the charge because the original participant went unwell just before his performance.

Why do you remember it so fondly?

I remember it so fondly because that day, I removed many fears which were inside me, and on top of that, I came to know about my strengths. When my teacher instructed me to go to the stage, I told her that performing on such short notice was not my cup of tea. But she was in a different mood, and she gave me a pep talk for two minutes, telling me that I need not think about what the audience would say. Instead, my central focus should be reciting the poem without thinking about the negative scenarios.

Her advice boosted my confidence, and I went confidently to the stage. I recited the poem with determination, dedication, and discipline. My hard work paid off, and I got the first prize.

That day was a game changer because my fear of public speaking went for a toss. Moreover, I learned the significance of a positive attitude in our lives. The appreciation I got that day will always remain etched in my memories.
