Sample 1

I am staying in India, and there are unique and exciting things to study.
The most exciting thing I am interested in is knowing about people’s lives. The exciting thing I would like to understand is diversity in unity. When I was a child in our social science period, my teachers explained to me details about how India differs from north to south and how the languages and cuisines differ.

In some parts of India, people love to eat fish; in others, they love vegetarian food. And this is how the country is different. Even sports are different. Calcutta is known for football, whereas the rest of India enjoys playing cricket. So it’s a different country.

And I want to see what the binding factor is in my nation. It binds all the people together when they are different. They speak different languages, wear different kinds of clothes, have different food items to eat, and have different attitudes towards life.

However, when it comes to their country, they are one. So that is what I want to know, and I would like to know more about it. There are two or three reasons for that. People have stayed like this for thousands of years, so that’s why they work collaboratively, but there is more to it.

There are many nations where people stayed for a long time, and there were a lot of partitions. However, in the case of my country, people love each other. So I want to know the reason for that and to know that I would explore more. I will read history-related books, I will read more about anthropology, and there I will come to know more about it.

Sample 2

India is a country which is well known for its culture and tradition.
Various exciting things interest me. However, one of them is very important, and I am interested in knowing more about it: the ancient language Sanskrit. I know about it because I studied it in my formative years and am interested in it for various reasons.

First and foremost, it is a very scientific language, and various Indian languages have inspired it. Moreover, it is a straightforward language which is relatively easy to decipher. The ancient texts of India’s Vedas are also in this language.

By having information about Sanskrit, I could grasp the knowledge of various Vedas, which would enhance my knowledge regarding how ancient India was because it was scientifically advanced. Still, we need people who know more about that because comprehending the Sanskrit language is difficult for them. If I know it, I will be able to grasp the information, and I will be able to translate it into English so that other people also come to know about it.

To know more about it, I will do various things. First of all, I will learn the hundred most used words in Sanskrit and then try to frame sentences based on that; after that, I will gain knowledge under the aegis of the Sanskrit teacher, and every day, I would chat with him for long hours. If I do that, I can learn Sanskrit and not take it too long. I will start this process next month. I have given myself a year to grasp the basics of this language, and then when I read more, I will learn more, and this way, I will grasp it.

Although my country has many exciting things, one is highly inspirational and worth mentioning. It covers the canal with solar panels, and I’ve seen this in Neelon, which is very close to the famous industrial city of India called Ludhiana.

I know about it because the local administration has widely publicized it in the newspapers and social media. There is a big canal in that area, and the area above the canal is not of any use, so the government made the critical decision to cover that area with solar panels.

This initiative has worked like a charm because now that area generates sufficient electricity to supply power to 30 nearby villages. It has also strengthened the state’s exchequer because the government provides free electricity to the agricultural sector in our country. With these solar panels, most farmers in the nearby villages are getting electricity for free, and the government is saving a lot.

I want to visit that place and learn more about it because such kinds of initiatives need to be implemented in other places so that our country has surplus power that we can supply to neighbouring countries as well. Moreover, the sun’s energy is an untapped resource, and we must leave no stone unturned to tap it effectively.

Sample 4

India is a vast country with many interesting things. One such thing is highly recommended, so I’m very interested. It is a Gucci vegetable which grows in the winter months in the upper hills of my country.

I learned about it two years ago when I attended a wedding ceremony there. I ate the Gucci vegetable, and upon close inquiry, I found that it comes at a high price: about $800 per kg. I’m interested in it because of its health benefits. It provides various nutrients to our body.

It is a highly nutritious mushroom, but it is not available in abundance. If you want a Gucci mushroom, travel to different parts of the hills. If one mushroom lies in one place, the other could be 6 km away. So that makes it very interesting because picking it requires a lot of energy and stamina.

Apart from this, the guidance of locals is highly important for this. I want to know more about it because it is a good business. Developing a process through which I can develop this vegetable in a laboratory would bring me a lot of money.

Sample 5

Although I am proud of and interested in many things about my country, one of them is highly special. Hence, the Cricket League by the name of IPL is worth mentioning. I know it because every year, it happens in March when people from different nations like England, Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and New Zealand come to India and play in this League.

Every evening, there is a match, and the best part is that the matches are in a short format, known as T20, and all the matches are exciting. It’s a good game between a bat and a ball, and both bowlers and batters enjoy it a lot.

I would like to know more about it because the public needs to understand various things about IPL. Private franchises manage this League and how they run the operations, conduct parties after the match, and look after the fitness and diet of players. That is a fascinating topic for me to know.

To give more information regarding this League, I would like to start a blog where I would provide in-depth details regarding the whole workings of IPL, and there I’ll explain to the readers how, in the last 15 years, it has become the world’s second most popular League after EPL.

Sample 6

I am in my country, India, and there are many attractive places, including beaches, tourist places, and some historical sites. Among all of them, Agra is my favorite. It’s a town near the capital city, and the Taj Mahal knows it. Hence, the Taj Mahal is one of the world’s seven wonders.

The Taj Mahal is also known for its flawless architectural creation world, so during school, my school organized a trip to Agra to the Taj Mahal. As I recall, I was in ninth standard, and we went there. It was a mesmerizing experience over there. It was a vast building, and it was all made of marble. It was a flawless experience for me, and it attracted many people.

I have also seen many tourists from places other than my country, so it’s an excellent site to generate money. This Taj Mahal is famous for numerous reasons. First is its deep history, as in the history of Shah Jahan making the Taj Mahal for his wife. It’s a token of love for his wife, showing how much he loves his wife, Mumtaz.

And it’s an excellent example of love or true love. The one exciting story behind this is that after building after building the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan gave the order to cut the hands of their architecture so no one could make it made this kind of building again.

So it’s not like a true story, but most people say the same thing, so this place is more attractive as I see it personally. It is a vast building with a lot of history, so that’s why it’s a famous place that I like in my country, and I would like to go over there if I had an opportunity.

Sample 7

So, as I’m living in Canada, I have seen the majority of changes compared to what I had back in India. I have seen people working differently, with different lifestyles, and at the same time, they have other food cuisines. So one of the things that makes me more curious is the kind of food they’re consuming.

Sometimes, because they are very peculiar about the things they put inside the body, it is like the choice of ingredients; the choice of stuff is the other. For instance, if I talk about a salad, they are very picky about those kinds of things. So this makes me more curious about the type of food they have. So I want to put my mind to developing more interest in how the food comes around, how people eat these kinds of food.

So I used to back in like one year ago, I used to work in a restaurant where I was a supervisor back then. I used to make different kinds of salads. I used to deal with these things. At that time, I learned about the dietary restrictions and the allergy concerns, and people around, like here, have more nutritional limits than other countries.

It’s probably because of the weather, but they tend to develop these allergies more efficiently than in other countries. So they are very peculiar. At the same time, the salads and other stuff they are eating are delicious. And because I used to make them, I know we are putting a lot of good food in them. So this is good for your body.

And I want to know because there are a lot of varieties of salads and food and raw stuff. And if I talk about chickens, they have a variety of chickens. They have the fried chicken, they have the rotisserie chicken, and they have the gravy chicken. So, Canada has a wide variety of chickens.

I want to know more about it because it helps me improve my health. Because if you eat salads, good stuff, you know what you’re consuming and how much food you’re consuming. And you can be in a state of mind where you know what ingredients you are putting in your body and what you are putting to fuel your body. If you work out a bit, you will put your body on a healthy path.

It is a very prudent approach to give your body a proper path. So yeah, it’s going to help me a lot. I learned a lot after coming here because how these guys measure and check the calorie balance is excellent. And if they know how many calories there are, for instance, if I talk about a spinach and romaine mixture, they know how much they will put. So the ratio is good.

So let’s say I’m taking a bowl of salad and consuming it; it’s going to be like a proper bowl of salad, let’s say for 500 grams, the salad weight is 500 grams. So they know how much spinach weighs in that salad and how much red cabbage or other stuff is in it. So, calculating your body, ingredients, and whatever you’re consuming is perfect.

And at the same time, the weather requirement is perfect. You know that in particular weather, people have a specific food. So, depending on the weather and demand, they have food. So it’s like you can only consume some particular food briefly. No, that’s not how it is here in Canada. It makes me more curious about what foods they have in other provinces and what kind of different stuff I can explore regarding food. So I want to explore more and more about food because I’m an enormous food enthusiast. So, I want to learn more about this thing.

And to be more precise, this food habit of you getting like eating good, good food. At the same time, trying different delicious cuisines is a perfect way of living. For instance, the winter is very harsh if I go somewhere on the northern side and to Alberta or Calgary. They have weather conditions, such as if the temperature is almost minus 50 or minus 60. So they have a particular food, different delicious soups, a different lifestyle, bonfires, and in front of them, they are eating food.

So yeah, this gives a very positive lifestyle. So because of food, it impacts a lot. It makes sense that you’re having delicious food with your family and loved ones. It is fascinating. At the same time, this helps you learn more about any particular culture.

Sample 8

There are numerous places in my country, India, which are the most interesting tourist attractions. Among them, my favorite place is the Taj Mahal.

It’s, it’s one of the seven wonders of the world. It is famous for its features, especially the tiles used to make it. And, like, when I was in my eighth standard, my school organized a trip to the Taj Mahal.

And I went there with my friends and my teacher. So when I went there, I was perplexed by the structure of the building; it was mesmerizing. It was a huge white color. It seemed like something was happening in heaven.

It is a very interesting place because there are a lot of stories behind it. Like the first one, it was built by many artisans, and after its completion, the king, like Shah Jahan, ordered this and cut the hands off his artisans so no one could make it again. And it’s a myth, but many people trust this story.

After that, it shows Shah Jahan’s generous love for his wife. Shah Jahan loved his wife and built this Taj Mahal as a token of love after his wife’s death. And my sister is an archaeologist. So, she tells me a lot of things about the Taj Mahal. And that’s why I am interested in this.

She also told me I could learn many things about it, like in the library. So after that, I read many books. I have gone through many websites, and I learned a lot of things about the Taj Mahal. They are like vast material that we can explore, and it’s really interesting.

And that’s after reading books, I came to know why they considered it one of the world’s seven wonders.

Follow-ups

Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card “Describe something in your country that you are interested in  ”.

1. What kinds of things do you find most interesting?

Whenever I’m close to nature, any activity that is close to nature, like river rafting or fishing, or, you know, walking in the garden or skiing in the mountains, these kinds of activities sound interesting.

 2. Can you describe an exciting hobby or activity you enjoy in your free time?

I love to listen to music in my free time. It’s given me peace from my monotonous monotony life, and it also works as a stress buster for me, so for that reason, in my free time, I love to listen to music. How do you discover new and exciting things?

 3. How do you discover new and exciting things?

I can discover new things by exploring my surroundings. Recently, we explored a Humber Hickling trail. It’s a very long trail, and it’s hidden from worldsight, so for that reason, we found it, and it was a different experience while exploring the area over there.

4. Have you ever encountered any activity initially dull for you but later became interesting?

Definitely, yes, during my childhood, I found cooking very dull, and I wouldn’t say I liked to do cooking as I recall; whenever my mother gave me any task regarding cooking, I denied it, and if I had to do something, I did it with the slightest interest.

But after I was growing up, as time passed, I learned that this activity was perfect. Then I moved to Canada, and here I had to cook my food on my own, so whenever I started trying to make dishes, I found it very interesting, and now I am like a pro in making new dishes.

5. What kinds of things do you find most interesting?

So, there are a couple of things that I find more interesting. Let’s say, just as I was telling you about the food, not only do they have food, but they also have a mixture of raw ingredients because they prefer to cook less. They choose the food to get roasted sparingly. They like it raw. Let’s say they’re just grabbing spinach.

They’re just plucking the spinach and putting it in a bowl. They’re just adding the raw cabbage and everything and just eating. It may be different from what we have a habit of eating. So definitely, this is an exciting thing because if you talk about the long run, it will change your taste. So this has been very interesting to me so far.

 6. Can you describe an exciting hobby or activity you enjoy in your free time?

So, watching people is one of the most exciting hobbies I enjoy. And so, like roaming on the street, I prefer going on the street in the evening because, in that way, I can clear my mind of all the hectic schedule I had on that day. So, if I’m going around in the evening, this helps me a lot in giving me a proper direction.

7. How do you discover new and exciting things?

So I ask people directly, to be very honest; if you’re confident enough to ask people about their learning and experience, you can grow a lot further.

And there is a tendency if you tend to learn more, then you need to be more brutal about asking questions.

You cannot hide yourself and think and pretend you know everything because that’s not the case. So, I go around, ask people, talk to them, and learn more about their experiences, culture, and lifestyle. So yeah, this is my way of learning.

8. Have you ever encountered any activity initially dull for you but later became interesting?

So, there was an incident where I started. It’s been three years since I started working out. So, when I started working out, it was challenging to bring a paradigm shift to my daily routine because I had a habit of relaxing and not doing too much physical work.

For instance, it was excruciating for me if I was doing a workout because my body did not react to this sudden change. So I had to give it some time. Doing an exercise workout is more than a one-day match; it can show you the result in just 24 hours. It’s a long tournament of tests. So yeah, this was one of the most painful things I had to do.

9. What do you find most interesting about your hometown?

My hometown is Ajmer, in the province of Rajasthan country, India. It’s in the Asia continent. So the most amazing thing about my hometown is the food there because they have food. I won’t say it’s a perfectly healthy snack, but let’s say I talk about a particular meal, a cuisine called kachori. It’s not the most nutritious food in the world, but it’s one of the most delicious foods because it’s fried.

I am so dependent on whether you want to consume it. For example, I prefer to go to this place twice a week. And I used to eat that kachori a lot. So this was one of the most popular and famous things we have over there in my hometown.

10. Can you describe an exciting hobby or activity you enjoy in your free time?

I prefer to relax and watch Netflix in most of my leisure time. Sometimes, I also like walking outside under the street lamp. So these two activities are the most important, like my free time and time.

So I love to relax, eat some tasty food, and sit and watch some Netflix, like different kinds of extra generals or other stuff. So yeah, I’m watching Netflix. After that, I sometimes like to walk around and watch new things. So yeah, I want to explore. So these two things are one of my favourite hobbies.

11. What was the most exciting book or movie you have recently read or watched?

I’m not the person who can sit and watch, like read a book. But if I talk about movies, I watched this movie yesterday; it was based on the theory of the atomic bomb. And the movie’s name was Parmanu.

The story was based on real life. So it has a very, like, goes way beyond because it was from the late nineties. So it belongs to a story of how the atomic bomb was created in India, how they successfully hid it from America without putting their eyes on it. And they just made an atomic bomb in their country. So yeah, it was a recent movie I watched.

 12. Have you ever attended an exciting event or festival?

So, the last event I attended was two months ago. So, the previous event was in Ripley’s Aquarium. It’s in downtown Toronto. It’s one of the giant aquariums they have here in Canada. So, there was an event in which they bought different kinds of sharks together in the aquarium to showcase to them.

So it was the most fantastic experience I had so far because I’m watching the structure of the aquarium, which is so good that it covers the whole, like if, for instance, you’re walking like it’s just like walking in a tunnel. So, instead of the walls around the tunnel, it’s just the white glasses and water all around you. And it has sharks moving around. So it’s one of the most amazing experiences. It was so delightful to watch, and I felt perfect watching this experience live.

13. Have you ever encountered an interesting problem or challenge you had to solve?

So, I started working as an intern at Martin Ria, and it’s been four months since I’ve been working there. So when I started working there, after 15 days, my supervisor, my manager, hey, his name is Nima. So he gave me a mathematical problem. It looked like a tiny thing; I thought I could solve it quickly, but the problem was so crucial that it was based on a famous mathematician, Ehlers.

And this is like a theory he created.

So, this problem is the first problem he came across. So my manager gave me this problem. I could solve this problem in a snap of my fingers, but it’s been three months, and I haven’t solved it. I’m still trying to figure it out because he told me not to look in the book. So that’s why it’s taking a lot of time for me to solve. So, this is one of the hardest things I have discovered and faced recently.
