IELTS ESSAY TOPIC

These days the fashions in clothing are constantly changing. Does it affect people and the environment in a positive or negative way? Justify your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge and experience?

Sample Answer 1

In the contemporary epoch, the fashions in clothing are continually changing. In my opinion, it is affecting the people and the environment negatively. First, it wastes individuals’ time and money. Secondly, it leads to more waste.

To begin with, the tendency of the fashion industry to bring constant changes in garments wastes two precious resources of people: time and money. Individuals these days squander a sizeable portion of their productive hours in searching for the attire to be in synchronisation with the latest vogue. Moreover, middle-class people sometimes go beyond their means to have the perfect outfit for themselves. Thus, it is detrimental for us because effective utilisation of hours and funds at our disposal is a must-have to lead our lives towards an impressive growth trajectory. For instance, my college teachers complain that the central focus of many students is on carrying a new fashion instead of studies.

Moreover, the persistent changing trends in clothing lead to disastrous repercussions for our surroundings. There is no denying this conviction that due to increased demand, garment companies work for long hours. Consequently, industrial wastage has inclined tremendously, which wreaks havoc on our environment. Furthermore, to create more production units for clothes, the authorities have no option but deforestation. Thus, the tendency to go beyond the conventional domain to produce new outfits for masses and classes is not a worthwhile proposition for the current generation and posterity. China is the prime example where the government has reduced the exports of fashion accessories due to environmental degradation from enhanced production.

To conclude, excessive change in fashion trends is counterproductive for individuals and the environment because it leads to money and time wastage coupled with a surge in pollution and cutting of trees.
