Introduction

In this contemporary epoch, smartness has made inroads in people’s lives. Only those people who follow the impressive growth trajectory go beyond the conventional domain to tackle the pressing problems surrounding us.

I have had the opportunity to see the smart way of handling a grave concern by a seasoned entrepreneur.

Who this person is?

The name of the person is Mr Andrew. He owns a restaurant in my city.

What the problem was?

Mr Andrew is a rage to riches story. Despite a humble beginning, his business has grown by leaps and bounds.

Although Andrew’s business was doing good, he used to feel dishearted with the wastage his restaurant would generate every day.

He had instructed his manager to find a viable solution to address this issue. His team had tried a lot by creating awareness and giving rewards, but all efforts went in vain.

How did he/she solved it?

Upon seeing his team’s failure, Mr Andrew had realized that he needed to do something out of the box. To do so, he had changed the menu, and he started charging according to the weight of the eatables. For instance, the customers had to order 500 gms pizza instead of a large pizza.

This paradigm shift led to a tremendous decline in food wastage because now customers pay for the quantity of the eatable they order. And to save money the customers order as per their need and do not waste food.

His smart idea has worked like a charm, and now his restaurant generates minimal wastage.

And explain why you think he/she did it smartly?

He did it smartly because of his love for the environment. He knows the importance of food, and according to him, the greatest sin is food wastage.

Who this person is?

The name of this person is Mr Gordon. He is my next-door neighbour.

What the problem was?

Recently his company assigned him a task to devise a plan to deal with the plastic waste in the city.

How did he/she solved it?

To solve this problem, he went beyond the conventional domain. He was smart enough to realize that some out of the strategy would be required to take care of this grave concern of plastic waste disposal.

To do so, he had made a tie-up with rag pickers and instructed them to deposit all the plastic waste with his company. The collected plastic would then be converted into flower pots of different sizes and different colours.

The rag pickers would get these flower pots free of cost for the hard work done by them. They would later sell these products in the market to earn money.

This strategy had worked like a charm for him and led to a tremendous decline in the quantity of plastic waste in our city.

And explain why you think he/she did it smartly?

He decided to do it smartly to prove the point that all problems have a solution. The only thing we need to do so is to change our attitude towards the issues surrounding us.
