IELTS CUE CARD TOPIC

Describe a person who thinks music is important and enjoys music

You should say:

  • Who this person is
  • How do you know him/her
  • What music does he/she like
  • Why he/she thinks music is important
  • Explain how you feel about him/her

Sample 1

There are many people in my friend circle who are music enthusiasts, and one of them is Andrew. Music is his life, so he enjoys it to the full extent. Andrew is a guitarist, and I have known him for the last 15 years because he is my next-door neighbour, too. His family shifted to our area 15 years back, and we became all-weather friends from that day.

Although he likes every musical instrument, the instrumental is his favourite. He thinks music has charm, and we kill it by getting involved in the lyrics.

So, rather than focusing on the lyrics, we should focus on the important tune. According to him, music is highly significant in our lives because there is a lot of stress these days, and music acts as a stress buster.

Moreover, music takes you to a different world. When you listen to music, you meditate, which helps you make informed decisions about your pressing problems. I feel excellent about Andrew because music keeps him positive.

Moreover, whenever I feel stressed, I visit him, and he plays guitar for me, which makes me feel enchanted. So Andrew is my best friend, and I am always there to provide him with unabated support so that he can lead his musical career towards an impressive growth trajectory.

Sample 2

Well, I know many people in my life who love music, but one person who I can for sure say loves and is in love with music is my friend Karan. I have known him since fifth grade, when we were classmates and batchmates.

I was admitted to that school and fifth class only. He likes many types of music, but his favourites would be pop and classical music, which stress relieves the mind and is fresher for us.

He loves music for many reasons and tells me I should love it. He gives me many reasons, like music releases our stress; music gives us concentration, increasing our concentration towards our work. Music also helps us in many ways to fight with life.

Sometimes, we are in a dire situation and can’t find a solution. At that time, we should listen to music, calm ourselves, and find the solution as quickly and calmly as possible. Music is perfect for listening to, and we should all love it, as it helps us keep ourselves fresh and stress-free and release our minds from everything running around for a while.

Sample 3

One of my friends likes music very well. He also says that music is essential, and I agree with him because music makes us relax, and enjoying music is good.

And he hears soft music because he likes hearing that. He relaxes hearing that only, and whenever he gets a chance to listen to music, he will agree and hear it.

He likes music a lot, and he hears music every time. He also suggests that we listen to music to remain calm and enjoy it. It is perfect, and I also like hearing music. I also listen to music, and I want every type of music, and I hear them all, but my friend only likes soft music, and he listens to soft music.

He told us its name and suggested we hear that music. Whatever music he indicated to us, we liked. We also tried to listen and gave him feedback that it was nice, and he was also happy because of it.

Follow-ups

Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card: “Describe a person who thinks music is important and enjoys music”.

1. What do you think about playing music for children in class?

I think it helps them learn more. For example, if we play music like rhymes and poems, the students can learn more things from that. ABC or something else is also being played nowadays as a song. So they can understand easily through visuals, listening, or singing.

 2. Why do many teachers incorporate music into the classroom?

Most teachers nowadays incorporate music in classes because it makes the children more concentrated on their studies.

Their learning increases because their visual and listening power also increases. So they can remember things more easily than reading and just listening because when they get a visual idea, they imagine it, which can be quickly learned.

3. Are there any advantages to a shop while music is playing?

If a shop has music, the shopkeeper and the customers who come sometimes feel good in that environment because they are on the road, just listening to the horns, and the atmosphere is so noisy. The music gave them a good vibe when they came to the shop.

4. Would people’s shopping behaviour be affected in a shop with music?

I think yes, people’s behaviour changes when they hear music or a song in the shop because if the noise is so loud in the shop, the people are not able to express or tell that person what the things he wants to buy and if he wants to buy one or two things, he can easily do that.

So it affects. I think the best answer is that when there is background music, the mind listens to background music, and the mind does not have noisy seasons.

So, when there is background music, people tend to purchase more. People do bulk purchasing.

5. What would be the effect of background music in a film?

Background music adds more sound effects to a movie because when a person is watching a movie, it can sometimes be boring if there is only dialogue between a person.

If the filmmakers add background music to the movie, listening to the sounds will be more beautiful.

6. Why are musical movies so popular?

Musical movies are so popular because the songs and the music and the rhythms they all have created are very entertaining to the people.

After all, a movie is a story about a person or a life lesson, but when music is added to the film or movie, it makes the movie exciting and entertaining.
