 IELTS Cue Card

Describe a time you saw children behave badly in public.

You should say
Where it was?
What the children were doing?
How others reacted to it?
And explain how you felt about it?

Introduction

  • Children in their formative years usually misbehave because at such tender age they do not understand the repercussions of inappropriate behaviour.
  • To avert such situations, it is the bounden duty of the parents and the elders to mend such conduct of the children.
  • A time when I saw children behave badly in public recently was at a wedding celebration.

Where it was?

  • Last month it was my cousin’s wedding.
  • Because of my busy schedule, I could attend only one function that was a wedding reception.
  • We all relatives assembled after a very long time.
  • It was a family reunion for us.
  • The whole gathering had a sizeable number of children in their teenage.

What the children were doing?

To make the occasion a memorable one, we all planned to have a group family photograph at 8 pm.

When we tried to gather all the relatives, we realized that most of the children didn’t reach the site earmarked for clicking the photograph.

When I found them, I saw they were playing digital games on their respective gadgets. When I had asked them to stop playing games and join the party, few of them started shouting and refused to join us for the family photograph.

How others reacted to it?

After a few minutes, other family members joined me, and the behaviour of the kids upset them.

But rather than rebuking the children and spoiling the party, we curbed the situation with a cool head.

We made all the children sat at one place, and one of the senior members of our family made them realize the glaring mistake they had made.

The children had quickly realized their mistake and apologized immediately.

And explain how you felt about it?

Initially, I had felt upset about such behavior, but later on, I realized that nobody is perfect in this world. Children being immature are prone to mistakes.

With the unabated support of the elders, they can learn how to behave appropriately.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Follow up Questions

Here are some examples of follow up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to cue card “describe a time you saw children behave badly in public”.

1. What bad behaviour do children usually have?

Usually, children engage in bad behaviour by making a lot of noise, throwing things here and there, paying less heed to elders advice, and indulging in stealing of stationery and other things.

2. How should parents stop their children from behaving badly at public?

I think parents adopt a diplomatic approach for changing the bad behaviour of the kids in public places. Rather than rebuking them in front of others, they should find the ulterior motive of the children behind such conduct. By showing the repercussions of bad behaviour done by children at a public place, the parents can mend their behaviour.

3. Are parents these days stricter than in the past?

As per my opinion parents, these days are less stricter than in the past. As the parents of the contemporary epoch, they try to do holistic development of their kids by befriending them.

4. Whose influence on children is more? Parents or their Friends?

I believe in the formative years, parent’s impact is too much on the children as they spend a sizeable part of their time with the children. However, as children grow up, they spend relatively more time with their amigos. And as per my opinion during this time, their friends have more influence on their behaviour and thinking process.
