Introduction

There is no denying this conviction that photographs play a vital role in our lives. Although I have a large collection of photos, one of them is special, and hence it is worth mentioning.

When did you take this photo?

It is a selfie that I took last year.

What is this photo about?

Last year due to the corona pandemic, our nation was in lockdown, and. because of that, I had to sit idle at home for a few months.

During that time, I gained a lot of weight and started looking bulky. The people of my township turned to body shaming, and I was in depression.

I followed a strict diet plan with regular exercise to escape that situation. For six months, I worked with determination, dedication and discipline.

And when I finally lost weight, I was in a state of euphoria.

I clicked a selfie and posted it on social media with my changed looks.

Why do you feel proud of the photo?

I feel proud because I took a challenge and fulfilled it. The whole journey was an arduous task for me, and many times I lost the willpower to pursue the goal further.

But still, I carried on because I had a hunger to become successful.

That photo makes me feel proud. Whenever life gives me lemons, I see that picture and motivate myself to work hard during challenging times.

That selfie reminds me that our tough situations are temporary, and by working with a plan, we can lead our lives toward an impressive growth trajectory.

Introduction

In this modern era, people have this uncanny knack for clicking photos wherever they go. Although I have numerous photographs of mine in my collection, one of them is special and worth mentioning.

When did you take this photo?

My brother clicked this photo on the result day of my 10th class examination.

What is the photo about?

During my childhood, I was an average student who used to find it challenging to get a decent rank in the class. I tried very hard but couldn’t get success.

Seeing my plight, my older brother came to my rescue, and he told me that the reason for my failure was my lack of consistency. As per him, not following the timetable was the reason for my failure.

He observed that I used to put the effort in 3 days a week and would waste time on rest days.

Although I was not fully convinced by his advice, I followed it. I regularly followed the timetable for the next six months with determination, dedication and discipline.

To my joy, I passed my 10th standard with flying colors, and got the first rank in the school.

My brother clicked my picture when I was on the stage to receive the trophy.

That photograph is hung on the main wall of my study room

Why do you feel proud of this photo?

I feel proud of this photo because it makes me realize that whatever the human mind can conceive and believe can achieve.

When did you take this photo?

The photographer clicked this picture during my graduation convocation ceremony. The best part about this picture is that I am receiving my degree from the honourable chief minister of our state.

When did you take this photo?

In the year 2020, the corona pandemic made inroads in our lives. At that time, I was in my 12th standard. As the virus was spreading rampant, the administration imposed a stringent lockdown.

Due to that, I didn’t go to school in that session and even took the examinations from home.

When the administration lifted the lockdown, I had a sigh of relief as all my classmates had passed the 12th standard and took admitted to different colleges.

I decided to arrange a reunion. During that celebration, I clicked a selfie.

Lastly, another prominent reason for feeling proud of this photo is that I managed to bring all my friends for a reunion, who were scattered in different cities and nations, due to my earnest efforts.

Follow up Questions

Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card “Describe a photo that you are proud of”.

1. Why do some people use photographs to document important things?

I think photographs are a reliable medium to refresh memories. After looking at photographs, we feel nostalgic by remembering the events and people in the picture. Also, photographs allow us to discuss our experiences with others at length. There is no denying this conviction that a picture is worth a thousand words.

2. What can one learn from photographs taken throughout history?

The vital knowledge people can get from photos is the triumphs and losses of our forefathers. On the one side, photographs serve as live proof of human brilliance and advances, and on the contrary, they also exhibit how and where we didn’t get success. For instance, photos of dense forests of yesteryears at places occupied by contemporary skyscrapers exhibit our architectural prowess; however, at the same time, they showcase how we ruined our environment to achieve the same.

3. Are photographs the best way to remember something?

Earlier I believed that photographs were the best way to remember something. However, there was a paradigm shift in my thinking when I went through a piece of content on how efficient smells make us remember. Due to this, storytellers of the past relied on incense sticks and spice bowls while telling stories.

4. What are the basics of photography and taking good photographs?

Making a remarkable start in photography is an arduous task. Moreover, it requires heaps of experience to handle DSLR and mirrorless cameras. There are many features and buttons, and a person needs to work on them with determination, dedication and discipline to learn them adroitly.

There are three basics of photography. Anyone who gains mastery of them becomes a perfect photographer. These three aspects are shutter speed, Aperture and ISO.

Having a central focus on these three aspects helps you gain substantial knowledge of photography.
