IELTS Speaking Part 1 City Life

What do you think are the main advantages of living in a city?

There are a lot of advantages to living in the cities. First and foremost, we get all the amenities a person needs daily, like arts and a gym, and it’s close to our surroundings. Apart from that, a city can provide better job opportunities than the countryside areas. So, for that reason, cities are very good places to live.

Can you describe the typical lifestyle of people living in a city compared to those in rural areas?

Yes, in the cities, most people are workaholics and spend their time doing their work. But if I talk about the rural area, the people out there mostly do farming, and they like doing work, such as home-based work. And they are busy with their household chores. But in the cities, people have nine-to-five jobs.

Can you describe the typical lifestyle of people living in a city compared to those in rural areas?

As far as comparing the lifestyle of people living in the city with those living in rural areas, people in the city live with a lot of hustle and bustle, which means they have to live their life amidst a lot of traffic and noise pollution. In contrast, people living in the countryside have a very simple lifestyle.

Moreover, in cities, people have to eat processed foods. In rural areas, people eat organic food. And as far as facilities are concerned, they are better in cities.

They have good educational institutions, entertainment, and health care options, whereas rural areas have limited education, health care, and entertainment options.

How has urbanization influenced the culture and traditions of cities?

Due to urbanization, most people preferred Western culture. And their tradition is fading away.

People usually wear Western clothes and eat Western food. Due to this, globalization is increasing. And people don’t like to wear their traditional clothes and don’t follow their traditional rituals.

These are the differences we can see in all cities due to urbanization.

What are some challenges people face when living in densely populated urban areas?

People living in cities are facing many difficulties, such as those living in mostly populated cities. The first one is the need for more amenities.

Because the government needs more land to accommodate such a large population, it is also lagging in providing amenities to its population. People live in small apartments and barely have outdoor spaces, which leads to many ailments related to the body.

And yes, these are the problems due to the high density of the population.

Do you believe city life offers more career opportunities compared to rural areas?

Yes, there is no denying this conviction. People in the cities get better job opportunities, and apart from that, they get a better education, which leads them to get high salaries. If I talk about rural areas, the facilities could be better than those in cities.

So, they do not get good jobs and need a better education. So, considering all these reasons, cities have more career options than rural areas.

What are some of the amenities and services that make city life convenient for its residents?

Firstly, as I said, they have all the amenities a person needs daily. And apart from that, cities become globalized now.

People can meet people from different religions and countries. So they can learn from each other better. And apart from that, they have good job opportunities.

And they have good services like transportation and everything. These things improve the city and have better amenities than the rural areas.

How do cities address environmental concerns and promote sustainability in urban living?

The government plays a very important role in addressing environmental issues, and they do many things to mitigate them. For example, Delhi is a highly populated city in India. Recently, they have implanted air filters all over the cities to clear the air.

And so, because of this, people can get fresh air because due to the highly populated city, everyone is using public and private transport, which leads to air pollution. So, for that reason, they implanted air filters. Apart from that, the city of Bangalore is currently suffering from water shortages.

So, their government is now requesting other states to help them. And so, they are taking every possible action to mitigate this problem.

What impact does city infrastructure, such as public transportation and housing, have on the quality of life for city dwellers?

As I said, the public transportation is very good and up to the mark. Like, a person can immediately get their buses. Apart from that, they have all the surrounding areas like parks, gyms, schools, and hospitals, which help them to keep their bodies fit.

Apart from that, their education and, like the job sector, they have a lot of opportunities. So, like by which they can pursue according to their need and like a choice. So, these are the amenities that give them the quality of life.

Can you discuss the social diversity and multiculturalism found in cities and its effects on communities?

Yes. Due to the large increase in the number of people in the cities and the better job opportunities, people from different religions, cultures, and states came together to seek a better future.

So, they learn about each other’s traditions, customs, and religions. However, they hurt themselves because by pursuing other cultures, they forget to follow their traditions, and their interests gradually incline towards foreign cultures. So, that’s the only negative impact I can see in the cities due to urbanization.

What measures can the government take to improve the lives of city residents?

As I said, most populated cities suffer from various problems, such as environmental pollution and the lack of amenities and accommodation. So, the government should take some stringent yardstick to mitigate and tackle these problems.

The Delhi government should take the initiative by installing air filters to improve air quality. Apart from that, the government should limit the migration of the population. So, by this, we can get rid of highly populated cities.

Apart from that, the government should provide equal amenities to rural areas. So we can reduce the migration. Because people can get whatever they need in rural areas, they don’t have to move from their places to better cities for a better future.
