Public libraries should provide books and not waste their limited resources IELTS Essay

IELTS Essay Topic

Public libraries should provide books and not waste their limited resources on expensive high-tech media such as software, videos or Dvds. Do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer 1

Public libraries have evolved. Along with books, public libraries also provide expensive advanced technological media such as software, digital apps, audio, videos or DVDs, etcetera. However, some believe libraries should only concentrate on providing books rather than spending money on technological facilities. I disagree with the statement because, firstly, technology is more convenient than books. Secondly, reducing the number of books benefits the environment.

High-technology media are easily accessible by people as compared to books. Books can only sometimes be carried along. However, technological features can be accessed anywhere with the help of computers, laptops, and phones. Nowadays, most people have a hectic schedule; they want to access public libraries by being in their comfort zone. To rent a book, people must go to an actual library, whereas software and videos provided by libraries can be used at home or office by logging in to an e-library.

Moreover, the paradigm shift of public libraries towards technology has fallen in favor of the environment. Since libraries have started focusing on technological advancements, the number of books has drastically decreased, which is good for the environment because people cut numerous trees to manufacture paper yearly. For instance, according to an article published in The Vancouver Sun, deforestation has decreased by 30% in British Columbia, decreasing the number of books published in public libraries.

To sum up, there is no denying this conviction that books have had an excellent role in public libraries, but both people and the environment prefer the technology media.

Sample Answer 2

Public libraries should not spend money on expensive technologies such as software, videos, and DVDs; rather, only written books should be provided by them. I strongly disagree with the above statement because, firstly, today’s world is technology dependent, and secondly, with technology, it will be a user-friendly experience to learn things.

In the contemporary epoch, most people depend on technology for everything they do. Hence, libraries need to upgrade their system to impose high-tech software to make it easy for tech people to use the library. Moreover, managing data will become much easier with technologies for the libraries as they do not have to manage data manually in the registers. For example, a library of Indian Institute of Technology campuses uses software to store all the data related to library management.

Additionally, with videos and DVDs in the libraries, learning things will become easier for people as a visual representation of things can make people understand a particular topic much faster. Moreover, it will attract more people to the library as most people are now interested in online lectures and other online methods to study, and it will be a great opportunity for students. For instance, Harvard University has introduced many video resources for learning, and the statistics illustrate that students’ learning ability has increased by 20%.

To conclude, it is apparent use modern technologies the common libraries to help people learn things quickly with videos and DVDs and manage library data easily with library management software.
