Many people argue that due to widespread internet accessibility, libraries are not necessary anymore. Do you agree or disagree?
Model Answer
Numerous individuals assert that because of extensive internet availability, libraries have lost their significance. This essay agrees with this statement because firstly internet provides seamless information, and secondly, libraries are not environment friendly.
There is no denying this conviction that the internet provides information round the clock. Due to this reliable medium, the whole world remains in touch with each other. From the comfort of your home, you have access to knowledge from across the globe. Whereas at libraries physical presence of an individual is a must to fetch a large pool of information. Hence, utilizing the services of the internet is a prudent approach. As per my personal experience, during the ongoing corona pandemic, I have kept myself updated by enhancing my knowledge through the internet.
Moreover, in the modern setup libraries, are a threat to our mother nature. As readers have to travel to libraries to get study material, this leads to a surge in the traffic on roads. This incline in traffic leads to environmental contamination in the form of air pollution and sound pollution. Apart from this, libraries majorly deal in printed books, and it is a well-known fact that paperback books result in deforestation. Thus, switching to the internet instead of the libraries will lead to a paradigm shift in our environment. For example, a study by Oxford University has revealed that with the increasing use of the internet, the requirement of paperback editions of books has declined by twenty per cent.
To conclude the incline in the network penetration of cyberspace, the status of libraries will experience downfall as the internet provides a smooth flow of information, along with lesser damage to the environment.
