Fossil fuels are the main source of energy around the world

IELTS ESSAY TOPIC

Fossil fuels are the main source of energy around the world. However, people are being encouraged to use alternative energy sources such as wind energy, solar energy and so on. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Sample Answer

The primary source of energy around the globe are fossil fuels. However, individuals are being encouraged to utilize alternative energy sources such as wind energy, solar energy etc. In my opinion, it is a positive development, because firstly, it helps to save the environment and secondly, alternative power sources are comparatively cheaper.

Alternative sources of energy help to conserve the environment in a better way as compared to fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels leads to air pollution that is quite disastrous to both plant and animal life. Moreover, there is just a limited number of fossil fuels present, and they are on the verge to become extinct because humans are exploiting these sources at a rapid pace. Delhi city in India is the prime example, where a large part of the population has respiratory disorders due to the usage of fossil fuels.

The recent alternative sources of energy are available at a reasonable price. Although the investment cost for the projects like solar panels, windmills are a little high, the recurring cost of power generation is not much. Furthermore, these sources are eco friendly, and they do not lead to an adverse effect on our nature. Due to this, the planet Earth can become a better place to live for all species and humans. For example, as per the recent report published in Oxford University, a solar air conditioner’s running cost is just ten per cent of the operating cost of a regular air conditioner.

To conclude, using alternative energy sources is a worthwhile proposition because they are both environmentally friendly and reasonably priced.
