Sample 1

India is a diverse country with a variety of plants. Indian citizens grow neem, basil, turmeric, and so on. But here I would like to talk about the most essential plant grown in India: aloe vera. This plant is small in size and very easy to grow.

It doesn’t require much more water but needs sunlight to grow properly. This plant has many uses; aloe vera is used in many medicines, including antibiotics, antifungals, and anti-hygiene medicines.

Doctors also advise diabetic patients to rub aloe vera gel on their feet. Many people grow it in front of their house’s main entrance. It is also beneficial for decoration. It is a small plant and doesn’t require much assistance from a person, so it looks perfect. Moreover, it produces ten times more oxygen than typical plants.

People also like to keep it in their room near the window where sunlight can reach it. Apart from this, aloe vera and aloe vera gel are also very useful, as many of the home remedies in India are done with aloe vera only, such as people growing their hair very well with aloe vera.

Aloe vera gel is perfect for hair and tanned skin. People cut the plant’s part and cook it as a dish because it purifies the human body.

Once, I read about a home remedy for long hairs on the internet. I brought a small aloe vera plant in a pot and placed it on my balcony, where there was excess sunlight. Watching it grow in weeks only with the excess sunlight, I saw that it had grown in a healthy amount. I then cut it safely, removed its gel, and applied it to my hair, which immensely helped. I saw that it is a perfect remedy, so the use of aloe vera is excellent. I think that aloe vera is an ideal plant grown by Indian citizens.

Sample 2

The banyan tree is an important plant in our country because it is big and provides shade for everyone. However, in our place, the trees have been cut down.

A banyan tree would give us shade. It’s a big tree, and we need to plant trees again because we have cut down many trees to build many buildings.

Everyone is trying to plant as many trees as possible, and they have planted many trees. Most of the footpath areas have banyan trees because they are big trees and provide a lot of shade.

Whenever people are tired of walking, they sit near the banyan tree, relax, and return. Everyone likes the banyan tree because it provides shade. I also like that tree and suggest planting it if we want shade.

Sample 3

As our country is diverse in its culture and vegetation, India is becoming rich in botanical and horticulture sciences. Our government has many plants and animal species, including the tulsi. It is treated as an herb used in religious places like temples and Gurudwaras.

It is used to purify the air and has a good fragrance that helps cure many diseases like heart and respiratory diseases. Also, it allows us to detoxify and is used in green tea like Tulsi green tea and Lipton, which are some brands.

It is also used in cough syrups like Honitous and Vicks. Tulsi water helps us to become fit and cuts down excess fat in our bodies, preventing problems like obesity and diabetes.

It can be grown in pots or on the terrace, but mainly outside our home, usually in the garden. I mostly see this plant in gardens, and it looks like a cherish-green plant with a small stem beneath the ground and mainly a bunch of leaves.

Tulsi is part of Ayurveda and has many benefits. It is also an essential part of research in medical sciences, thus making it the most valuable asset for our country.

Follow-ups

Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card “Describe an important plant in your country”.

1. What are the features of living in the countryside?

Living in the countryside is healthier and less stressful than living in urban areas. In urban areas, there is more population, more traffic, etc., and the food is also not good. In rural areas, people eat healthier food and do all the work themselves to stay healthier and live longer lives.

2. Should schools teach children how to grow plants?

Nowadays, schools should teach students how to grow plants because sometimes, when students develop a plant, they do not know how to water it, and the seed does not grow as well as the plant. So, the school should teach the students to develop more because it is necessary.

3. Why do some people prefer to live in the countryside?

People prefer to live in the countryside because it is much more peaceful and healthier than urban areas. They eat healthier food, everything is organic, and they must do their work themselves. They do not feel too much because, in rural areas, there is not too much population, so they can keep their privacy on their own.

4. Why do some people like to keep plants at home?

People like to keep plants at home because they provide a lovely view of the home. The greenery makes us happy, so people prefer to put plants in their houses. It also gives them a pleasant environment around them. We know plants provide us with oxygen, so plants should be kept in the home.

5. Have new kinds of plants grown in your city recently?

Yes, new kinds of plants are now growing in the city. We think that 20-30 years ago, the plants were different, and now they are different. Some plants are becoming extinct, and new types of plants are growing, like new types of bushes and shrubs.

6. Are there many trees in your city?

I don’t think so. My city is Ropar. There are not too many trees, but one area is very greenery where I live because, at its backside, there are mountains so we can feel that my area has many more trees than the city area.
