In some countries, young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year
IELTS ESSAY TOPIC
In some countries, young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this.
In few nations, young individuals are often motivated to work or travel for twelve months after completing high school before beginning university education. This essay will suggest that the primary advantage of this is that it helps students acquire real-life experience, and the main disadvantage is that this often leads to distraction.
On the one hand, students who work or travel after completing their schools get real-world experience. Often these students get to learn valuable social and moral skills that play a
significant role in professional life. Moreover, during this time, students get to know deep and practical knowledge regarding the subjects they wish to study in future. For example, in New Zealand students often do part-time jobs in subjects they wish to make a career in after completing tertiary and this has had a great impact on their career.
On the other hand, sometimes asking young students to work or travel after high school can distract students. When students start earning, they often tend to care less about their education as they feel they are already making money. Furthermore, sometimes students increase their liabilities due to which they spend more money instead of saving for the future. As that is quite a crucial phase of life, many students get into the wrong company and follow the wrong trajectory in life. According to a survey conducted by The British Times, it shows that a large percentage of students who joined part-time jobs after schools before resuming university education get involved in drugs.
To conclude, asking young people to work or travel after schools helps them gain experience however, it can also distract them from future studies.
