Sample Answer 1
Introduction
It is a gospel truth that laughing is medicine and helps us feel good by removing pessimism. However, there are a few situations when it is impolite to laugh. Recently I had such a moment.
When was it? And Where was it?
Last year the world went through a paradigm shift due to the corona pandemic. During that time, instead of going to school, I took online classes, and when the administration lifted the lockdown, I organized a party to which I invited all my classmates.
All of my friends reached in time except Andrew, who came late. We all started laughing when he arrived because Andrew had gained weight. Rather than greeting him correctly, I started body shaming and cracking jokes about his physique.
In the beginning, Andrew smiled, which later turned into tears.
Why was it a wrong moment to laugh?
After seeing drops in his eyes, I felt terrible and tried to talk to him. In the discussion, he told me that he went through a tough time in the last six months due to an adverse medical condition, and he gained weight, not by overeating but because of taking steroids to cure his ailment.
Listening to his story, I was in a state of sadness and realized my mistake. Before cracking jokes about someone’s physique, it is wise to know what situation that person is going through.
I immediately apologized to him and gave him special attention at the party.
In the end, he returned smiling, and I sighed in relief.
