Sample 1

I live in Chandigarh, which has many public facilities. Today, I would like to talk about an institution that has just been renovated and has made many improvements.

It is a library, the name of which is  General Library, and it’s been there for 50 years. Nothing has changed, but recently, the administration has made many changes for this reason. It has improved a lot. The first and foremost thing the administration has done in the renovation is to bring down the previous structure. Instead, a new structure was created according to modern needs.

Moreover, earlier, there was very little cross-ventilation. Now, there are enough windows for cross-ventilation so the students do not feel irritated if there’s a power cut. Apart from this, earlier, this library was running in a conventional setup, and only paper books were available, but right now, they have also introduced a Wi-Fi facility.

Furthermore, many computer systems have been installed. So people looking for a reference online, side by side studying from a book, can study on the computer. Moreover, there’s now a cafeteria inside the library.

The students used to go outside for refreshments between their studies. Still, now they have this facility where they can have the mouth-watering delicacies of their choice inside the cafeteria. And I feel perfect about it because the library has a serene environment and sound infrastructure if you have suitable facilities. The task of studying becomes more accessible, and I think all those libraries following the age-old system must be renovated, and this follows a new system to attract more readers.

Sample 2

The most extensive facility that was renovated recently was the library. The library in our place has three floors because it’s big and has many books. The ground floor contains books kids can read in the UKG or KG section.

The second floor is for kids in the upper classes and people who like novels, and all the floors are for adults. We were going downstairs because there was no lift or elevator there.

It was tough climbing those steps because we had to climb the first floor and go a lot up, and everyone was frustrated. And the library owner thought that it would be nice to keep an elevator or a lift for others.

They have kept a lift there now because they felt that the people who want steps or those who wish to use a lift can use it because many people like walking upstairs to read books.

After all, they liked walking, but some could not walk because of leg pain. So all persons went into the lift and had a reasonable opinion about it because it was a good renovation, and they also fixed many new bookshelves.

They have added many new books there and keep bringing new books that have been newly released. And I like that library very much because it’s a sound library and many people come to read. Many also come to read the subjects taught in the class because the library is very silent, and people can read things very calmly.

Sample 3

Renovation of a public library or museum is essential for a place to keep its history and related culture safe. One such example is the public library near Sec 27 Chandigarh, which is one such extensive library in this Union Territory; it has a variety of books like fiction, non-fiction, Indian history books, Sikh history books, a dictionary, comics and various other encyclopedias. This library has two floors on the ground floor it has a reception and a book section, and on the first floor, it has computers and study tables. However, due to low funds from the government, this library needed to be in a better condition, thus reducing its members and readers.

After some time, local groups that helped develop UT stood by this. Library members renovated it after the new year when there was less of a crowd. They built the furniture again and created new desktops with the latest software installed to automate the work.

They added new books and painted the library’s walls, thus revealing its culture. Moreover, the authorities also raised the income of staff members, and the library was renovated, creating a sound library infrastructure. Being a daily member of that library, I liked how they handled all these things and started giving good reviews about them on Google. Thus, I enjoyed studying in this library.

Follow-ups

Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card: “Describe a public facility( for example a museum or a library ) that been renovated and improved recently”.

What are the benefits of public facilities?

Public facilities benefit people and the environment. If fewer vehicles are on the road, most people will use public transport. Less fuel is burned by using fewer vehicles. So, if ten cars are on the road, all the ten people are going in one bus, which can save fuel for ten cars. So it is helping the environment and the people who cannot own their cars or go by themselves so they can use public transport.

Why are some public transport methods popular, such as the subway?

These methods are popular because they give people more opportunities to reach their places quickly, so they are preferred. Many bus stops are made then, and people can get their places rapidly.

Why are some public transport methods unpopular?

Some public transport, like taxis or AC buses, is unpopular in my town because it is much more expensive. Sometimes, they do not even stop at the bus stop if they see the crowd, so this should not be done.

What kind of transport do young and old prefer?

Young people prefer to use their transportation, such as a bike or a car, but older adults, who are experienced, want to save money and use public transport.

Do you think people feel happier in a park or a coffee shop?

Yes, people feel happy when they are in the park because it gives them a relaxed time. They can have peaceful and fresh air in that area. In the cafes, they see many crowds, making them feel uneasy. If the coffee is also not good, they cannot enjoy it.

Is the public park necessary in every area?

Public parks are necessary in every area because they are essential for children and people to enjoy or relax. In buildings, if people live in flats, they do not have any garden or greenery outside, so a park is the place where they can reach that.
