Describe something you did in your study/work that has made you feel confident IELTS Cue Card

Sample 1

There’s no denying this conviction that people want to improve their study environment and work, which makes them feel confident. Recently, I’ve made some adjustments in my work, which have made me feel confident. It happened two months back at the workplace because I was not performing well, and there were a lot of complaints from my clients. One day, I decided to change my mindset towards my work.

The adjustment I made was that I started planning for the next day before leaving at the end of the day. So, I would clear my desk and prepare for the next day, beginning and ending.

To my joy, this change in the routine brought balance to my performance because when I would start my day, I would not have too much work to do, and everything used to be planned, so I did not have to make more adjustments to my team members. So my overall performance improved, my confidence went sky high, and all my colleagues started appreciating me for this change.

I felt good about it because a slight adjustment brought a massive change. I saw a shift in my mindset; even my colleagues started following me, leading to an amicable environment inside our office. My boss greatly appreciated me; he promoted me, and I got a pay increase.

So I recommend that everyone do this activity. Do not plan your day after reaching your office; instead, when you are ending your office, at that time, you should plan your day for the subsequent day so that when you come for work the next day, you do not have to look here and there, and everything should be crystal clear, a blueprint should be there, and you need to follow that.

Being an ambitious person, I always want to do extraordinary in my studies to lead my life towards an impressive work trajectory. And for that, I used various techniques to improve my performance.

Two years back, I changed my work, improving my life. And that’s why it is worth discussing. It happened when I was in my final year examination. At that time, I was having a lot of anxiety issues. I used to study for the whole night, burning midnight oil, but I did not get good results. At that point, I realized the importance of taking breaks between studying and rewarding yourself.

So, I studied for one hour and did some activities for 10 minutes. For example, I would play video games, do household chores, and sometimes talk to my friends. And that change in my approach worked like a charm for me because I used to study for one hour.

At that time, working and studying for one hour would reward me 10 minutes. Due to that, I became immensely confident because I was not taking my studies as a stress. Instead, it was an enjoyment for me. And when my final year result was out, I passed the exam with flying colours. And my teachers and my family members were pleased.

I felt perfect because I tried many things but didn’t get good results. So, this technique was perfect for me and simple yet effective
because when you get breaks in between, the brain gets time to rewire itself. So that’s why this technique worked like a charm for me. And I recommend everyone to follow this technique to do well in their study of their work.

Follow-ups

Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card “Describe something you did in your study/work that has made you feel confident IELTS Cue Card”.

1. Why do so many people lack confidence these days?

People these days have this uncanny Nag for running after an instant of gratification. Due to that, they mostly remain endorsed and spend a lot of time on social media; the face-to-face interactions have reduced dramatically, and hence, when they go out in public, they fail to express themselves, which is the main reason for the lack of confidence in people.

2. Do you think that children of confident parents are also confident?

Yes, the children of confident parents often become optimistic because it is well-known that you become the average of five people you meet or interact with, so the children spend a sizeable portion of their time with their parents. Hence, they acquire good qualities and experience and are more confident than others.

3. What can teachers do to make studying more interesting?

Teachers should think beyond the conventional domain to make studying more enjoyable. The first and foremost thing they can do is to make role-play an integral part of their teaching procedure. For example, suppose a teacher is teaching history instead of just depicting the characters of ancient times. In that case, the teacher should make the students play the characters of different historical figures.

So that way it becomes more interesting. The teaching methodology should be interactive, meaning sufficient student participation should make studying more enjoyable.

4. How can teachers help students become more confident by rewarding them for studying?

Teachers can help the students become more confident by rewarding them for studying because when rewarded, they get a dopamine spike, which encourages them to do that activity repeatedly.

Moreover, when one student from the class gets the reward, others also seek flashes of inspiration from him and get inspired to do better. It creates an aura inside the classroom where more children want to become confident.

5. What can teachers do to help their students become more confident? The teachers can make the children more satisfied by encouraging them to participate in debates.

Moreover, they should encourage them to do public performances also. Teachers should not focus on making the children get good marks on examinations. Instead, they should make earnest efforts to make the students learn the concepts properly because once you know a subject from the inside, you only become confident about it.

6. How can a person become more confident?

A person becomes more confident by doing things beyond the conventional domain.

That means a person needs to step out of their comfort zone because once we become experts at one thing, we prefer to remain in our zone, which declines our confidence to do other tasks. However, we become confident if we keep trying our hands at new things by taking risks.
