Sample Answer

My hometown is a city with hustle and bustle, and there are various shopping malls, theatres, and amusement parks. Many vehicles fly on the roads, so you can call it a concrete jungle.

So in the middle of the city, there’s a place which looks like a countryside area. It is a resort that was built 50 years ago, and it has the same infrastructure. So it is in the city, but it looks entirely different. It has a well inside it, and there are farms also.

Farming various crops is done, and there are many orchards where you can buy fresh fruits. Whenever I go there, I do things beyond the conventional domain, like camel riding, and sometimes, I bathe at the tube well, especially in the summer months when there is scorching heat.

I often go there with my family and with my friends. So in the evening, I usually go with my family because that is when all the family members are together, and on weekends during the daytime, I go with my friends.

Sometimes we play different kinds of games because there’s a small football ground inside that area, so we play football there. And this place is different from my city because it doesn’t have pollution, and there’s a lot of greenery. Moreover, whether it’s summer or winter, you have a cool breeze over here.

So, this place is different from city life; being in the city, we do not experience life in the countryside. Still, here at this place, you get to know what village life is all about, how it is exceptional, and how it differs from the city.

Follow-ups

Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card: “Describe a place in your hometown/city that is different from other places and that you enjoy visiting with your parents/friends IELTS Cue Card”.

1. What factors attract people to visit places other than their hometown?

The primary factor is that humans are urged to try new things. Staying in the same place, people get bored, so they visit new places to see new cultures and meet new people.

Apart from this, for professional reasons, people sometimes have to leave their hometown, be it their job or their studies. And people have particular interests regarding specific locations, so they choose those locations to work and study. And the third reason is that certain places have good reviews. You know, when you get good reviews regarding a particular place from your near and dear ones, you tend to go to that place and leave your hometown.

2. What do young people like to do in their leisure time?

In their leisure time, young people try to do technology-related things. Most of their time is spent on social media. They connect with their near and dear ones.

Besides, many youngsters are fitness-conscious and walk, bike, hit the gym, or do yoga in their leisure time. And a small percentage of youngsters like to read a lot, so they spend their leisure time reading new books.

3. Do you think visiting the same place many times is necessary?

Visiting the same place umpteen times is unnecessary and optional because if we do so, it becomes boring.

As human beings, we are attracted to only things, so if we keep visiting the same place repeatedly, we become tired over time. On the contrary, if we keep visiting new places, we gain new valuable insights, which is more fruitful for us.

4. What are the differences between where young people like to go and where older adults want to go?

Young people like to go to places with a lot of hustle and bustle because they love crowds and interact with people of their age.

On the contrary, older people like to go to places with a clean and pristine environment and serenity because they do not like overcrowded places and spend their time in a pollution-free environment.

5. Where do people in your hometown like to go?

My hometown is Chandigarh, a modern city with excellent infrastructure and many amusement parks.

So most people in my hometown go to places like Rock Garden and Rose Garden, where they spend their leisure time in the lap of nature.

6. What are the differences between big cities and small cities?

Big cities have good infrastructure, health care, lifestyle and education facilities. But they have a flip side: they have a lot of pollution, traffic congestion and overpopulation.

On the other side, the countryside has a clean and pristine environment, plus you get organic food because many farms and orchards are there. So that is the advantage of the countryside.

Conversely, the most significant disadvantage is that more career opportunities and good educational facilities are needed. Apart from nature, there is little to do, so young people feel tired and monotonous when staying in the countryside.
