Sample 1

I know various older adults who live as typical senior citizens by living an everyday life. However, one older adult with an exciting life is in contact with me. He is my next-door neighbour, living in my city, Chandigarh.

He has done various things in his life. He was a college lecturer, and after that, he became a principal. In his younger days, he also served in the Indian Army. So now he is living an interesting life because he hasn’t hung his boots after retirement. Instead, he did something beyond the conventional domain.

Now, he has become a travel blogger. So, he has carved a niche instead of staying in one city and spending the rest of the years. He is the oldest travel blogger in our country and keeps moving from one part to another. He has travelled throughout India and now visits countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. He writes content related to travel, sightseeing, and other facilities.

Apart from that, he also creates YouTube videos, and his followers on YouTube are in good numbers, and he makes a lot of money from that. Plus, he gets sponsorship deals from Instagram. So, with the money he gets, he spends on himself travelling and learning new things, and he has a boatload of experience and never shies away from helping others. So whenever I require unabated support, I contact him, and the quality time I spend with him always remains etched in my memories.

Follow-ups

Do you think older adults’ lives will improve with the development of technology?

Some of them, yes. As they are exposed to new technology, their life can be improved somehow. For instance, if they are not introduced to any touchscreen mobile phones, they won’t be able to read a lot and watch movies or films that much. If they are more exposed to technology, their life can improve.

Do older adults prefer to stay at home or go outside?

Most of them prefer to stay at home. They don’t want to go outside; they want to care for their grandchildren. So they prefer staying home and playing with them most of the time.

What are the benefits of older adults living alone?

So, there are many benefits to older adults living alone, the first being that their children’s restrictions bind them. Some children tend to put boundaries on their parents, such as whether they want to go out. So I think that restricted things are not there for elderly parents if they are living alone.

What are the benefits of older adults living alone?

Living alone for older adults has few benefits because you have limitations regarding mobility in old age. However, one benefit is that you get a lot of freedom because when you stay with your family, there are many restrictions, and you must take care of your grandkids or kids. But if you want to enjoy an independent life, then older people living alone is a better option.

Can older adults and their grandchildren learn from each other when they live together?

Yes, grandchildren can learn from their grandparents many things about their culture and traditions they are unaware of in their school. Grandchildren can also teach their grandparents about the latest technologies that have been invented. There are many things older adults don’t know about, and grandchildren need to tell them about them.

Why do some people live with older adults?

Because they want to support their family better, many live with their parents or grandparents to support them financially and emotionally, not just leave them hanging around. It might be difficult for older adults to figure out many things in their later stages, including their health and finances. So it’s like some people choose to live with their grandparents.

What do older adults often do in their daily lives?

Older adults often visit churches or try to see the Gurdwaras, and they can go for a walk in the parks, sit outside in the sun, and watch TV while inside their homes.
